On August 14, 2024, County Executive Dow Constantine promised 33rd/34th Democrat leaders that King County REACH workers had plans to find housing, shelter for the people currently camping across from the Burien Courthouse and Burien Police Station on King County property.
Dow's stated timeline was "within 4-6 weeks," making it September 30.
We are now at Day 22, and the number of tents and campers at the KC encampment seems to be the same, or possibly a little higher than it was on August 14. In addition, a newer Burien homeless encampment, located on a grassy strip between the Starbucks and Hiline Auto Repair parking lots, also continues to expand.
This past weekend, according to King County Sheriff's Office, Burien Police arrested multiple people with outstanding warrants at the Starbucks camp. Gunshots were reported by neighbors, and an ambulance was called for an "evaluation."
Burien.News will continue to follow and report on this developing story.
