Early morning on September 1, 2024, the King County Sheriff and Burien Police spent time at the growing homeless encampment located behind Burien's Ambaum Starbucks, located at 901 SW 148th St. Deputies arrested subjects with active warrants, and an ambulance was called.
Burien.News learned that several neighbors reported being woken by the sound of gunfire shortly after 2:00 am on Sunday morning. The noise came from the direction of the Starbucks on Ambaum. Deputy Mike Mellis of the KCSO confirmed that "between 2:14 am and 2:30 am, callers reported the sounds of possible gunfire in the area." However, "deputies found no damage, victims, or direct eyewitnesses."
Additionally, less than three hours later, an ambulance was called to the Starbucks, so Burien.News asked about the circumstances.
Mellis confirmed, "deputies contacted a group of people near 901 SW 148th St and made arrests based on active warrants." He added, "an Aid unit was called to evaluate one of the in-custody subjects."
KCSO did not share how many people were arrested or taken into custody on Sunday morning. The nature of the aid call was not specified.
In the meantime, there were at least three other medical/aid calls in downtown Burien in the past 24 hours:
Burien Park & Ride Transit Center (9/1/24 5:39pm)
Speedway Express Gas Station (9/2/24 00:37 am)
DESC Burien (9/2/24 2:51pm)
Burien.News will continue to follow and report on community crime, especially near the homeless encampments.
