I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic, for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
Family holding US Flag (123rf.com)[/caption]by Staff Reporter.[Edited to remove the comma between "one nation" and "under God" - thanks to a Burien-News reader for that correction, reminding us of our Unity as a Nation under God.]June 14 is the designated day, known as "Flag Day," a time for giving our flag special honor. We hope that the citizens of Burien will share in the privilege of proudly flying the "Red, White, and Blue" at their residences. It is indeed a privilege to live in this great country, and we come with thankful hearts on this day to honor our flag.
Here are some of the special days throughout the year when our flag may be flown:
New Year's Day (January 1)
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (3rd Monday in January)

Here are 8 Guidelines from VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) on how to display the United States Flag:
The flag should be hoisted briskly and lowered ceremoniously.
The glad is never allowed to touch the ground of the floor.
When a number of flags of states or localities or pennants of societies are grouped and displayed from the staff, the flag of the United States of America should be at the center and at the highest point of the group.
The flag should never be festooned, drawn back, nor up, in fold, but always allowed to fall free.
The flag should be displayed at half-staff until noon on Memorial Day and then raised to the top of the staff.
Never fly the flag upside down except as a signal of distress in instances of extreme danger to life, property, or country.
The flag should not be flown in inclement weather except when using an all-weather flag.
The flag can be flown every day from sunrise to sunset and at night if illuminated properly.
Let's show love and respect for our beautiful flag, remembering the many who have suffered and died so that we might live in this marvelous country, the United States of America!
