by Jake Knight Burien-News Sports Reporter. On a night where Kentridge High School honored four seniors on the ballclub in their last home game of the regular season for senior night, Kennedy Catholic showed no mercy to the graduating players, taking the game 7-1 behind a Luke Logan three-run moonshot over the left field fence.[caption id="attachment_16787" align="alignnone" width="931"]
Luke Logan crossing home[/caption]A couple of walks in the second inning set the table for Logan, turning around a first-pitch fastball and blasting it deep to left field. There was no question whether it had the height to clear the wall, but it had just enough distance to clear the reach of the left fielder scaling the fence for a three-run home run to put Kennedy Catholic ahead 3-0.Luke Logan's three-run home run:[videopress sEmk236E]On the other side of the ball, the Lancers handed the rock to their reliable left-hander Harvey Lieberman who turned in yet another solid performance. Lieberman went the distance for the second consecutive start, besting his outing against Mt. Rainier last week when he coughed up three runs over seven innings. Only one Kentridge batter came around to score in this one. The day was not completely void of stress for Lieberman, and the pressure was put on immediately. Owen Finlayson dunked the first pitch of the game from Lieberman into shallow left field, followed by a perfectly placed sacrifice bunt that turned into a bunt single to put a couple runners on with no outs. Tommy Jensen on the first pitch of his at-bat barreled a line drive to the left side that looked like it would open up the scoring early for Kentridge, but third baseman Quinn Bundy snagged it on a hop and touched his base to get the first out. Lieberman then induced a flyout and a groundout out to escape the inning unscathed. In the third inning, Kentridge mashed a couple doubles to score a run, but Lieberman cruised from there, keeping the opponent off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game.[caption id="attachment_16784" align="alignnone" width="915"]
Harvey Liberman strikes out Kentridge batter[/caption]After the Logan home run, Kennedy Catholic sprinkled insurance runs throughout as the game went on.Cam Mattingly had a good day at the dish: 2-3 with a walk, a single, a double, one run scored, and two runs batted in. Mattingly drove in his first run with a single in the fourth through the six-hole between shortstop and third base to bring Will Cahill home.[caption id="attachment_16786" align="alignnone" width="932"]

Dante Saladino shot a single to left to score their fifth run of the game, and Cahill hit a deep fly ball to center in the next at-bat to bring in the sixth on a sacrifice fly.Mattingly collected his second RBI in the last inning on a ringing double to left-center to finish off the scoring for the Kennedy Catholic offense. As the playoffs inch closer and closer, there is no question Kennedy Catholic is hitting their stride at the right time. The Lancers notch their 16th win in 20 tries and their 8th league win in 11 tries, good enough for a tie for second place in the 3A/4A North Puget Sound District with Tahoma High School. Behind Richland and North Creek, Kennedy Catholic is in a four-way tie at 16-4 for third-best record in the state of Washington. One game remains before the playoffs begin as Kentridge takes the trip to Kennedy Catholic for the Lancers’ senior night Wednesday at 4 pm.
