A Revolution has started in White Center. Two brothers, Simon and Corry Bakker, decided that White Center deserved a "state-of-the-art," modern, and meticulously clean laundromat. "We really wanted to do this for the community. We have come to love White Center. This is our way of serving the people of White Center," they said.
The laundromat is as much lounge as it is laundry. Spa water, soft, comfortable seating, open and airy spaces, wide aisles, and warm, friendly staff give it an ambiance of "other-centered serving" that feels like your favorite club. "Laundry is so mundane; it's just one of those things someone must do. So we thought, 'let's make a great experience. A place folks want to come and spend a couple of hours,'" a smiling Corry said.
The equipment is top-of-the-line. There are three different sizes of washers. Large dryers. Jumbo-sized folding tables.
The brothers now have several businesses based in White Center. In addition to Revolution, the brothers own Corry's Fine Dry Cleaning, Fuzzy Wuzzy Rug Cleaning, and Grafitti Busters. Their staff are local to White Center, creating an economic engine that brings in jobs and dollars to a challenged area. One might think that would be good news to government officials, but the permitting and legal process took over a year. "When we finally got the go-ahead from the government, I began to cry," said Simon. "We just wanted to serve the community, but they made it so hard."
Revolution opened in early July. From day one, it has grown in popularity. Revolution will host an open house for the community on August 10 from noon to 4 PM. Free tacos, a band, and free shirts, caps, mugs, and water bottles will be distributed. Everyone is welcome!
